Services

I provide targeted online reading intervention for your elementary-aged child.  I aim to close their reading gaps by providing specific instruction in the areas of  phonemic awareness, phonics vocabulary, comprehension and fluency, known as the 5 Pillars of Reading.  We also work on spelling. I teach them how to increase their reading levels even if they have never received instruction online using Zoom.

I aim to impact your child by closing his/her reading gaps, using tools to enable them to be successful in the classroom now and in the future.

I found Kathy through a Google search for a fluency coach!  I was very pleased to find a coach with an educational background and experience with helping readers overcome their fluency obstacles.  As a child, I was never comfortable with reading out loud and have always been embarrassed as an adult when called upon to read aloud publicly.  In the beginning, I struggled with accuracy as my eyes would race over the page faster than I could speak the words.  I made numerous errors and would substitute words rather than sticking to the written text.  Kathy quickly identified the areas where I needed improvement and through our weekly sessions introduced me to phrasing, stress, visualization, melody, and rhythm.  I am very pleased with a noticeable comfort and improvement in a very short time, and Kathy has provided me with the tools to continuously improve my skills moving forward.  Kathy is a fantastic fluency coach and I would recommend her training to anyone, at any age or grade level, who struggles with reading aloud!  Thank you, Kathy!"

It is always heart-warming when I get notes from students. This one in particular, melted my heart. We still work together. He has the cutest giggle. E. wrote:

Two girls took a literature class with me and afterwards they commented, "We enjoyed your class very much. We have a lot of classes and homework now, but we will come back."

To begin, I carry out a free reading assessment for your child to determine his/her strengths as well as identify possible reading gaps. Included, is a comprehensive report of my findings. Following discussions with you, the parents, hopefully we move forward with lessons tailored to your child's needs. This will dramatically increase their skills and overall confidence! Aspects of each individual program may also include phonics, spelling, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension activities.

 All services are carried out on Zoom, which is a user-friendly, stable platform. I provide instructions to you on how to use it. All that is required is a laptop, iPad or desktop computer, headphones, and an abundance of enthusiasm. I find Chromebooks do not allow students to write on the shared screen, so the other devices mentioned above are preferred.
